Fish fillets from Australia

Tripping in Queensland

OK, I’ve been tres slack and haven’t posted for simply ages. Mea culpa. Self flaggelation and all that. Well, not really. But I’m sorry, anyhoo. The reason for the lack of posting is because we’ve been away in the Sunshine State on holiday. How was it? To tell the truth it was a tad disappointing. Perhaps because I’d been expecting too much: our itinerary ran something like this:

  • Four days in Port Douglas, staying at the Mirage Resort. We got a fabbo deal when I was watching Getaway.
  • Four days in the Atherton Tablelands, staying at Lake Tinaroo, where they apparently catch massive Barramundi. Not that I’d know. We didn’t see hide nor hair (nor even scale) of one.
  • Three days at Mission Beach, opposite Dunk Island, just north of Hinchenbrook.
  • One day in Cairns, before we flew back to Sydeney.

Now that sounds like a damn fine holiday right? Yes, except it was cold and we only saw the sun for a total of four days. My beloved will dispute this if you ask him but, being English, he has a very warped idea of sunshine (Umm, it’s the big shiny thing in the sky, causes shadows and woman to wear next to nothing at the first chance they can, no matter if it’s just 22C; we went for a swim in a pool that was so cold the penguins were on the deckchairs watching - dumb Pom hubbie).

At least we caught a few good fish.
