Star Wars Schlock Brilliance

I know, I know…it’s like I’ve only just discovered YouTube or something. But it’s like this one was written just for me - a song about Star Wars written to arguably the best schlock song of all time (Barry Manilow fans will likely lynch me but it’s true): Cobacobana.

Solar power to replace toothpaste?

I’m a little behind the times, but just came across this great article about a toothbrush that uses solar power to clean teeth rather than toothpaste. Way cool.

And where does it come from? Saskatoon of course! Love those Canadians! The manufacturer is Japanese so it’s a joint effort, I guess. Apparently, the idea has been around for 15 years but they’re now calling for trialists. Obviously, you can’t use it in the dark, but apparently, it only needs as much light as a solar powered calculator to operate.

The toothbrush itself uses a titanium dioxide rod which releases electrons when it’s wet and light shines on it. The electrons then react with acid in the mouth (acid being the big bad guy when it comes to cavities). Very nifty. And who’d have thought dentistry could be so interesting?

Moonlight

Just watched the first episode of Moonlight - I have a real soft spot for TV shows about vampires. I am worried that Channel 9, with its usual disregard for viewers under the age of…ah..say 60…will relegate it to some ungodly hour of the evening after the first couple of episodes (note to programmers: just because we like watching television shows about vampires does not mean we are of that persuasion ourselves - some of us have to get up and go to work in the morning).

Now, I know, it isn’t the most original of plots (it’s been done before, as fans of Forever Knight are well aware) so when I first heard about it I was a bit skeptical. But it beats the hell out of bad American sitcoms all summer so bring it on, I say.

Oh, and Veronica Mars fans will appreciate the appearance of Jason Dohring, who played Logan in VM - plays the best friend, Josef Konstantin. Funny. Good.

Blackblack: The ultimate chewing gum from Japan

Now tell me this isn’t the best Kris Kringle ever - a Japanese chewing gum called Blackblack. Not only does it have High-Technical Excellent Taste and Flavor, it contains both caffeine and nicotine.

Woohoo! Bring it on - perfect for that all nighter, surviving the Christmas party season or, if you’re like me and have trouble getting starting in the morning, kickstarting the day.

As if a super caffeine and nicotine hit wasn’t enough, the Engrish on the packaging is classic!

I have no idea what the other writing says so feel free to translate.

My new favourite YouTube vid

…yeah, I know, since my last favourite YouTube vid. Actually, Mr Shatner is still my favourite. But I like this one!

William Shatner sings to George Lucas

First off, I am sorry. This really shouldn’t be a YouTube blog. But I’ve been off having little mini nervous breakdowns over the last eight weeks or so and so haven’t really be attending to Swandives. But I simply have to share this - the funniest thing I have seen on YouTube - or tele - in years. Tears were streaming down my face. Watch out for the Storm Trooper chorus line…classic!

Joy! Coffee on tap

A new cafe has opened not 30 metres from my door! Now I have coffee whenever I want! This is the best Christmas present ever!
I don’t think I’ll ever cook breakfast again. I can now just pop over for all sorts of goodies. Yum yum yum. This makes me very happy.

Why don’t my ex-boyfriends appear in Google?

Confession time. I just Googled the names of all my ex-boyfriends - in the name of research, of course - and none of them come up in the first page of search results. Very disappointing! How am I supposed to find out what they’re doing now and think about how much more wonderful my life is without them if they insist on being anonymous nobodies? Personally, I Google extremely well - they can all find out what I’ve been doing and how brilliant I am; I think it’s only courteous that I should be able to do likewise. This is the internet age after all - nothing’s sacred.
