Almost 20km in two days

Well, I know I can make it up Heartbreak Hill. The beloved and I ran up it last Saturday, just to make sure I could. We ended up running 8km. I’ve been worried that the hill would break me, and even though I was pretty fresh when we did it, at least now I know that I *can* do it. Once you get to the top it’s pretty much smooth downhill sailing…there’s a few rises but it really becomes a case of putting one foot in front of the other.

Having done all that on Saturday, we then backed it up with an 11.5km run on Sunday. I tells ya, it was hellish. My body still hasn’t forgiven me. This is the pointy end of training now, so it’s going to be a bit full on for the next three weeks. We both have birthdays in that time but we’ve decided to put off celebrations until the week after so we can at least do so in style.

Google has this simply awesome tool that let’s you map out distances using Google maps. Here’s the City to Surf map I’ve created. Note that I’ve started at Town Hall, and the actual race doesn’t start from here, so it’s almost 15km by Gmap reckoning. It’s actually 14 km.

In other news: Friends M&J are having a bubba and it’s due any day. I keep thinking about it, whether I should ring, whether they’re busy with all the last minute plans. I’m so excited. And I keep wondering whether I’m thinking about it because stuff is happening and I’ve tuned into the baby vibes. Guess we’ll know soon.
