Internet withdrawal
OK. I’ve had a gutful. Every time somebody in our apartment block moves out, Telstra disconnects our phone and internet. This is the fifth or sixth time it has happened! And, because we don’t actually have our phone or internet with Telstra, nobody seems to care. We contact our ISP, who says it’s Telstra’s fault and they’ll put a call in to a technican. Sounds all nice and easy, except being Easter, it took FIVE DAYS to get it fixed! Argh. We were forced to watch television for entertainment, darnit!
On the lighter side, we did rent V for Vendetta on DVD. What an incredible film! It’s my new favourite movie. I again have faith in the Wachowski brothers. It had waned markedly by the third Matrix movie but … wagons ho! … I am back on board. If you haven’t seen it, GO AND SEE IT. Seriously. It’s brilliant.
We are off to see the gorgeous Lou Rhodes (of Lamb fame) tonight. It’s a bit late for a school night, but she’s worth it.
And, I have new running shoes! They’re all white and shiny and have yet to take on the grey tint of my old runners. And they say you should never blame the equipment but this is quite the opposite - they make me run faster! Anywhere from 2-5 minutes depending on the distance. Woohooin! Granted, I do have a blister on my left foot at the moment, but I am hoping that is because of my socks and not the shoes. Nothing a bit of Gurney Goo won’t fix.
Oh, and I forgot to post about the fabbo V festival. So here’s a nutshell synopsis:
- I need bigger sunglasses. I think the appeal is that they’re so oversized that the rest of you looks small by comparison, and therefore thinner.
- Gnarls Barkley: sadly, disappointing. The best song of the set was Gone Daddy Gone, which is a cover of a Femmes song anyway.
- Jarvis Cocker: Oh. My. God. I’m a huge Pulp fan but Mr Cocker proved that true class transcends. He was brilliant. And funny. Love that.
- Groove Armada: they’re still good! And none of this boring DJ spinning shit malarky. They had real instruments up there.
- Beck: was a bit under the weather, but still enjoyable, thanks to that fabulous travelling marionette show which just about eclipses everything else that is happening on stage. They’re called the Beat Puppets and they’re a bit legendary. Here’s a YouTube clip of them trashing Radiohead’s dressing room.
- Pet Shop Boys: absolutely fabulous! hehe. Sorry. By this time I was fading because it was getting cold and I was getting weary.
- The Pixies: I am a bit ashamed that we only stayed for the first song of the set (twas pumpkin time) but now I can say that I have seen this seminal band (just wish it had happened 15 years ago or so).
The cab is late
So I am using this moment to post this:
