Now I know I can do it, so I have no excuse. Yesterday we ran 14km. I never thought I’d be able to run that far, but I did. It took me 1 hour and 45 minutes. I’d like to run 5 mins faster, but it’s not going to happen for the moment. Maybe next year.
To be honest, the hardest part was the first 3 or 4 km. I kept thinking ‘this hurts. A lot. How am I going to 14?’. But after about 8km I was feeling great, and I stayed that way until about 12 km. Then it started to hurt.
But at least I did it.
Who said advertising doesn’t work? I keep seeing ads for raspberry Chupa Chups on TV, but until now haven’t been able to find them!
Today, I finally found them. So now I have three. Yay! Well, two, actually - I ate one already. They’re very yum…now I’d like to see a raspberries and cream flavour, a la strawberries and cream. Now that would be worth waiting for.

A forward dive performed with the legs straight together, the back arched, and the arms stretched out from the sides and then brought together over the head as the diver enters the water.
Just in case you were after a definition, this one’s from Dictionary.com.
According to Wikipedia, a swan dive is also the most popular form of the diving headbutt manoeuvre in professional wrestling.
I think both definitions are fitting, depending on my mood. I’d like to be graceful and elegant, but too often revert to showy violence
Renewed. When I got my gold drivers’ licence, five years seemed like an eternity. That’s how 2011 feels like now, so I’m writing this in the hope I can look back on it in five years time and say something inane such as ‘my, how time flies these days’.
The good news is the photo doesn’t make me look like an escaped convict (I reckon it’s pretty good, as licence photos go). But why do they always insist on giving you pens that don’t work for the first two letters of your signature? I guess the signature’s not so important when there’s a pic of your mug right there on the card.
The most interesting thing, I think, is that my licence lets me drive a tractor. Cool! And an ‘implement’. What’s that? Oh, and a vehicle seating up to 12 adults, to 4.5 tonnes. Does that include minibuses?
with all things map.
The lastest is from the New Scientist Blog.

It’s about Artist Christian Nold who combines a Galvanic Skin Response sensor with road map data to show where people get agro in traffic (and also where they calm down, which is in some ways equally as interesting).
The official site is here.
Well, I know I can make it up Heartbreak Hill. The beloved and I ran up it last Saturday, just to make sure I could. We ended up running 8km. I’ve been worried that the hill would break me, and even though I was pretty fresh when we did it, at least now I know that I *can* do it. Once you get to the top it’s pretty much smooth downhill sailing…there’s a few rises but it really becomes a case of putting one foot in front of the other.
Having done all that on Saturday, we then backed it up with an 11.5km run on Sunday. I tells ya, it was hellish. My body still hasn’t forgiven me. This is the pointy end of training now, so it’s going to be a bit full on for the next three weeks. We both have birthdays in that time but we’ve decided to put off celebrations until the week after so we can at least do so in style.
Google has this simply awesome tool that let’s you map out distances using Google maps. Here’s the City to Surf map I’ve created. Note that I’ve started at Town Hall, and the actual race doesn’t start from here, so it’s almost 15km by Gmap reckoning. It’s actually 14 km.

In other news: Friends M&J are having a bubba and it’s due any day. I keep thinking about it, whether I should ring, whether they’re busy with all the last minute plans. I’m so excited. And I keep wondering whether I’m thinking about it because stuff is happening and I’ve tuned into the baby vibes. Guess we’ll know soon.
Create your own Jackson Pollock

So, we went and had a look at heartbreak hill the other day. It’s long. 1.5km long to be exact. I must begin hill training.
Did another 11+ km run on the weekend and managed it in 85mins. Based on this time I’m not gonna be setting any records but hey, I just want to run the whole thing without stopping to walk or dying.
In other news, Syd Barrett, founder of Pink Floyd, died yesterday aged 60. Shine on, you crazy diamond.
I’m really only posting this because I like the heading. But my beloved received a new take on the infamous Nigerian scam today:
I am a legal practitioner with offices in Moscow and London. My
clients include some high profile and controversial world citizens which
include the just widowed wife of the former Yugoslav president Slobadan
Milosevic, Mirjana. As soon as the death of her husband was made known to her
last Saturday, 11th March 2006, she immediately notified me of some funds she
had put away in a private bank in the United Kingdom which she wanted
transferred to the accounts of someone who has no known ties or links
whatsoever with the Milosevic family, hence the reason for my contacting you
through this medium and at this point in time.
The funds are to remain with this individual (you) on trust for a minimum of
12 months after which tensions would have died down, before arrangements would
be made for investment partnership between the custodian of the funds (you)
and the family.
Tim Brunero, the runner-up in last year’s Big Brother series, pretty much says all the things I would like to say in his column on the SMH website, with the added insight of having been there:
